Michelle started off as our social media intern, but has since become so much more. She helps Sotela with absolutely everything and has been so integral to our growth this year. I’ve leaned on her more times than I can count and has even become one of Olivia’s (my daughter) best friends.
We’ve loved having Michelle on our team. It always feels sad saying goodbye to a team member that feels like family, but we know she is moving on to bigger and better things.
Before she leaves at the end of the year, I’d love for you to get to know this wonderful human..
What is your role here at Sotela?
I am an intern.
How long have you worked at Sotela?
I have been here since July 2019.
What is your official title?
I am the Social Media and Marketing intern, but I do a little bit of everything from preparing and shipping orders to making flower arrangements for the Renegade craft fair.
Did you have Social Media experience?
I actually do not. I applied to be Sotela’s social media intern because I really wanted to learn how to use social media as a platform to reach out to others about ethical and sustainable fashion alternatives.
Why did you want to intern at Sotela?
For one, I am absolutely obsessed with their clothes! It is minimal and chic with pops of color. Secondly, I love that Sotela is supportive in their designs by including humans of all shapes and sizes. It’s all about inclusivity and celebrating our differences! I love that they care about our planet as much as I do. The Sotela team tries to be as eco-friendly as possible. Needless to say, I wanted to support a business whose core values align with my own.
How did you hear about Sotela?
I discovered Sotela on The Good Trade while researching eco-friendly and sustainable brands in LA.
What is your favorite thing about working at Sotela?
My favorite thing about working here are definitely the people. I honestly have such a good time at work. They are like another family! We are always laughing together and when times are stressful we are all good at supporting one another.
What is your favorite Sotela garment?
I can’t list just one because I have too many, but I love the Stella Culotte and the Verano Jacket in Corduroy! The Stella Culotte is my absolute favorite jumpsuit EVER. I love the wide-legs and wrap top because it makes me feel so pretty. My confidence sky-rockets every time I wear it. I’ve been living in the Verano Jacket in Camel Corduroy this season. I can’t emphasize enough how much I love it. I wear it with almost every single outfit. A co-worker at my other job complimented me by saying it was very “menswear chic”, and I can’t think of a better way to describe it. It cleans up every look and takes it to the next level.
What is your favorite food?
Narrowing this question down is difficult. I love all sorts. I go through phases of obsessing over something for weeks and move to the next. Right now, I am really enjoying Mexican Food. For the holidays we always have tons of good Mexican Food, like sopes, pozole, and tamales and I am SO looking forward to it.
What do you like to do during your free time?
I enjoy gardening, going for a good hike, or traveling when I save the money to do so.
Thank you for everything you’ve done, Michelle!
Michelle is unfortunately leaving us at the end of the year. We will open up applications for our intern position in January. If you are local to LA and interested in learning about ethical fashion in a made-to-order setting, send me an email at hanna (at) sotela.co.
