My Natural Beauty Routine

I started paying attention to all the toxic ingredients in my beauty products in November and decided to find natural alternatives for each one.  I’ve found most of them on Amazon so it really doesn’t get any easier than that. I’ve also been trying to figure out how to buy/make these natural products without the plastic packaging because let’s face it; we use plastic way too much.

Dr. Bronners Castile Soap: I’m still using this soap and loving it. I pour it into a smaller bottle and realllly dilute it because it can dry your skin. I probably use a ratio of 1/4 soap and the rest water. Castile soap can also be used as a shampoo alternative, although I didn’t like it, or to clean your home. There are so many ways to use Castile soap!

Kiss My Face Sunblock: I love that this sunblock doesn’t leave my face white or oily. Win win.

Coconut Oil: What can’t you do with coconut oil!? I use it as a face wash every night by slathering it on my face and leaving it overnight, as a main ingredient in my homemade face lotion, to cook, and for my dogs. One of my dogs has irritated skin because she won’t stop going in the pool and coconut oil is supposed to help her skin. I haven’t been consistent with giving it to my dog, but once I get more oil, I will start doing it on a regular basis.

Schmidts Deodorant Cream: Let’s start by saying that before this deodorant, I used Degree for men. I’ve tried clinical strength and every other kind of deodorant because nothing really worked for me. I was skeptical of natural deodorant because I didn’t think it would work, but it does for the most part. There are days where I don’t smell even after going to the gym and there are days where I do. My main complaint about this deodorant cream is that it makes me feel sticky. I hate feeling sticky in my underarms so it was an adjustment. My husband, on the other hand, doesn’t mind the deodorant cream at all and thinks it works just as well as Degree.  I’m going to try making my own next time and see if I can find a recipe that works best.

Xyliwhite Toothpaste: I don’t even notice a difference from conventional toothpaste brands other than it doesn’t foam a whole lot. I really liked this natural alternative, but may try making my own next time.

Lavender Essential Oil: Oh. My. Gosh. I can’t stress enough how much I love lavender. Its balancing properties can boost your energy, ease stress and put you to sleep in under five minutes. It also soothes and cleanses bruises, cuts and skin irritations. I use this oil every night by rubbing it on the back of my neck or temples if I have a headache. I also put it in my homemade lotions.

If you are unsure about switching to natural products, start off by choosing an easy one like soap! Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so treat it well with non-toxic ingredients.

**Sorry I’ve been MIA the past week… I had my wisdom teeth extracted and it was brutal! I’m almost back to normal with my normal sized cheeks 🙂
