On Instagram, I’ve been showing teasers of the new Sotela I’ve been working on for the past couple months. In some ways it is the same Sotela you’ve come to love, but with a more cohesive focus. This new brand is built on the foundation I created when we launched with a Kickstarter campaign in 2016.
For those of you who are new to Sotela, I created this company out of a need for clothing that fit my changing body. I went through a hormone imbalance that left me with a closet full of clothes that didn’t fit. I felt uncomfortable and insecure in a body I had no control over. Once I found clothing I felt comfortable in, I started regaining confidence in myself. Clothing can be an extension of your identity and when you feel good in your outfit, you feel like you can take on the world.
The Shift dress was the first piece I designed because I craved a silhouette that was flattering for my bloated belly. I didn’t want anyone to ask if I was pregnant because my stomach was so extended. Even though I knew my bloat was due to health issues, I felt consistent pressure to look a certain way.
We are constantly bombarded with advertising that beauty only comes in one size. There is more to us than our bodies and size. How about we focus on our strength, resilience and health? Beauty comes in all sizes and it’s time to embrace that.
Sotela is more than a fashion brand. It is a community of Everyday Women championing body-positivity.
The ‘S’ in our new logo represents the beautiful curves of the female body. The logo was just the beginning of Sotela’s “rebirth.”
This summer, you can expect a whole new aesthetic. The website will get a facelift as well as our summer collection, which will feature new colors, fabrics, and patterns.
And the biggest change will be with our manufacturing. I’m currently looking for a location for our factory. Yes, you heard that right. Sotela will soon be vertically integrated and creating everything in-house. We will also open our doors to manufacture for other small-batch companies. This plan is still in the beginning stages, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do since launching Sotela two years ago.
Stay tuned for more magic coming at you..
