I’ve wanted to write this post for a long time now because I always mention “wardrobe essentials,” but it has been hard because ‘essentials’ are completely subjective. Clothing essentials are based on your life and style. I notice that my style changes based on my life and what is influencing me. When I first started reading fashion blogs about two years ago, I entrenched myself in what was trendy and wanted to buy/wear clothes that resembled those bloggers. Now I hardly wear those clothes because what I thought were essentials, were really just trendy pieces that become unpopular as quickly as they became popular.
I’m starting to slowly build up basics in my closet that I know will be timeless. Most of these items were bought from some of the brands mentioned at the top of the page (“where to shop” in menu above) or thrift stores. Most items are neutral because that is a big component of an item being timeless. There are other factors as well, such as shape and design, but the items listed below are timeless because of its practicality and versatility.
- Great fitting jeans and I mean they fit well and accentuate your bottom half nicely. I love having some variety with jeans and my personal favorites are dark blue skinny jeans, black skinny jeans, medium wash boyfriend jeans and medium wash flared jeans.
- White Tee that is form fitting, but not too tight.
- Tailored blazer
- Nude heels
- Black pumps
- Black and brown purse. I personally love brown totes and smaller black handbags.
- Black Dress. I haven’t had a need for a cocktail dress yet, but a black dress is definitely on my wish list.
- Striped Shirt
- Trench Coat
- Chambray Shirt
There are over 20 outfits you can create with these wardrobe essentials. The chambray shirt and white tee can both be worn over your black dress to make it more casual or like a pencil skirt. The striped shirt can be layered over the chambray shirt or worn by itself with the blazer or trench coat.
These ten pieces are worth the investment and I highly suggest buying from a quality brand!
